BOYLE FARMERS MARKET

The last Farmers Market of 2015 will take place on Wednesday 23^rd December, just in time for Christmas! The market will resume as usual on January 2nd from 10am to 2pm. We wish to thank all of our wonderful loyal customers and stallholders who have supported the market in 2015.

Boyle GAA Quiz and Awards night

The Boyle GAA Quiz and Awards night will take place on Sunday 27^th December, in St Joseph's Hall at 7:30pm. We are delighted to announce that this year we have teamed up with two Boyle businesses, Magee's Fashion Shop and Aidan Ray's Menswear. The top team on the night will receive a mixture of 'his and hers' vouchers to a total value of €200. Along with a highly enjoyable quiz, the event is the ideal opportunity to meet up with everyone coming home to Boyle.

Curlew walkers club

The next meeting of the club will take place on Sunday 27th December meeting on the Crescent, Boyle at 1pm. The walk will take place at Erronagh Bog and is a Flat grade 2, with our leader being Denise O’Dowd 086 234 2999. Please confirm times with leader or website prior to each walk www.walkingboyle.com 

Annual TREASURE HUNT

The Annual Stephen's Day Treasure Hunt in aid of Hospice will take in place in Lough Key Forest & Activity Park at 2.30pm on St Stephen's Day. Answer sheets can be handed in afterwards at Clarke's Bar & Restaurant, Patrick's Street, Boyle where there will be a Fun Auction of a few selected items, which should be popular with sports fans!

CHARITY GIG

Ardcarne Garden Centre Cafe will be presenting a Charity Gig on Sunday 27^th December from 2pm until 4pm. There will be a short presentation from Sue Paling (director of Sai Donkey Sanctuary). The Honey Bees nostalgia 30’s 40’s Tin Pan Alley Jazz. A Soprano by Emily Murphy, Cathal Roche on Saxophone and Derek Dooley from the The Deadly Duo. All in aid of the Sai Donkey Sanctuary. Free Entry.

Boyle Farmers Market has a "Community Stall" available in our new all-weather Farmers Market. The idea is to have a different community group attend each week to promote, showcase your wares, raise awareness of your organisation or group etc. This is for community only. Fregoli in association with Boyle Arts Festival are delighted to bring the play Pleasure Ground home to Boyle - which is of course also home town to the writer, Jarlath Tivnan and the director Maria Tivnan. Pleasure Ground will be performed in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle on Saturday December 12th at 8pm. This production is not suitable for children under 16. The monthly draw for November took place in the clubhouse on Sunday 29^th November. Cycling information night

Curlieu Wheelers cycling club will host an information night for beginners and returning cyclists on Tuesday 1st December at 8pm in the Resource Centre, Boyle Information will be basic equipment, bike maintenance, nutrition, and hydration and build a starter program for the next 8 weeks which will suit all ages and abilities. This night is open to all interested in cycling. Tea and Coffee provided. Please come along and become part of a social, get-fit group.

The Annual Sale of Works will be held in the Church Hall, Boyle on Friday 4^th December at 7pm. Work stall, bottle stall, country produce, cakes. White elephant, books, hoopla and of course Tea.

Roscommon County Council, in association with Citizens Information Service and Roscommon LEADER Partnership, are having a series of events under the umbrella of Arts & Disability Week 2015, from 3rd December 2015.  An Information Night will be held on Tuesday 1st December in King House, Boyle from 7pm until 10pm.

The Family Life Centre will be holding a Bric a Brac sale on Friday 4^th December from 5pm until 8pm and are looking for donations towards this fundraising event. SALE OF WORKS

Abbey Haven Care Centre and Nursing Home, Carrick Road, Boyle will hold a Sale of Work of the Residents beautiful handmade Art & Craft Products on Saturday 5th December 2015 starting at 11 O’ clock.  The Sale of Work is a Fundraising Event for the Residents Comfort Fund.  Refreshments, Homemade Cakes, Biscuits and Christmas Baking plus tickets for our In-house Christmas Hampers draw will also be on sale.  All monies raised will provide additional day trips, and enhance our current activities programme.  We would love if you could join us on the day. Boyle Golf Club  

On Sunday 29th November saw the Turkey Voucher won by Jim Mooney 23pts, 2nd Michael Simon 21pts. At the Club AGM last Sunday Men’s Captain Ross Andrew was elected Chairperson of the Management Committee for 2016. Brendan Gaffney was elected Club Secretary and Michael Gilmartin was elected Club Treasurer. A review of activities for 2015 was given by the Captain and Secretary and a Financial Report was given by the Treasurer. Thanks to all who work on Committees, play on Club Teams, help to maintain the course or assist the club in anyway. Special thanks to all our sponsors particularly those who sponsor Open Week. Indoor Camogie

Boyle Traditional Singers Circle

Monthly singing session meeting will take place on Saturday night 21st November at 9.30 in The Crescent Bar (Dodds) .  The special guest is well known traditional singer Fionnuala Maxwell. All singers and listeners very welcome.

The Wizard of Oz will open at 8pm on Wednesday November 18th and continue until Sunday November 22^nd in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle. There will also be a special matinée performance on Sunday 22^nd at 3pm. Tickets are priced at €12 for the Wednesday and Thursday performances only. All other performances are €15 and children’s tickets for the Sunday matinée are €10. Please note that there is no booking available for the Wednesday and Thursday performances.

The weekly nine hole was won by Niall Kearney, 2nd Charlie O’Donnell. Results of the Part Three Competition held on Sunday November 1st were, winner Michael Reid 49pts, 2nd Seamus Gallagher 47pts, 3rd Ted Hestor 45pts, Ladies Winner Peggy Feely 45pts. Parent Club AGM takes place on Sunday November 22nd. Notices have been sent via email or post. Details are on club noticeboard. The final amount raised for Western Alzheimer’s/Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland was €4200. Thanks to all who organized, took part or supported the fundraising weekend.

Boyle Tidy Towns will hold a meeting on Tuesday 10th at 8pm in the Enterprise Centre a good attendance would be greatly appreciated in order to set up plans for the enhancement of the town for next year.

Service of Remembrance in Boyle

At 2pm on Sunday 8th November 2015 in the grounds of King House, the Connaught Rangers Association will be holding their annual Service of Remembrance. This is to remember all Irish victims of conflict worldwide and in particular the men of Boyle who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918. 126 men of Boyle were victims in this particular conflict and the centenary of the deaths of 30 of these men falls in 2030. 13 of these men were killed at Gallipoli. As is our custom during these centenary years we will read out the names of these 30 men. Afterwards at about 2.45pm the renowned author Philip Lecane will give a talk on the Gallipoli landings on 25th April 1915. He will be using the diorama produced by Boyle Men’s Shed which has been on show in King House all year as a back cloth to this talk. Philip will be taking extracts from his new book Beneath A Turkish Sun as the basis for his talk. All are invited to either or both of these events.

McALEESE COLLECTION

President Mary McAleese has donated more than 60 gifts to the State she received during her 14 years in office and has been launched in King House and will prove to be a major visitor attraction.  Many of those items were presented by Heads of State from around the world, including Barack Obama and Yasser Arafat. To have some of these presentations now on permanent display at King House in Boyle will certainly prove to be a major attraction for visitors at home and abroad. King House will be open Monday to Friday from 11an until 4pm up until Friday 30th October. Undoubtedly, the collection will enhance the visitor experience at King House.

McAleese Collection

President Mary McAleese has donated more than 60 gifts to the State she received during her 14 years in office and will be launched on Friday October 16^th in King House and will prove to be a major visitor attraction.  Many of those items were presented by Heads of State from around the world, including Barack Obama and Yasser Arafat. To have some of these presentations now on permanent display at King House in Boyle will certainly prove to be a major attraction for visitors at home and abroad. Undoubtedly, the collection will enhance the visitor experience at King House.

As part of the community involvement Abbey Haven celebrates Positive Ageing Week up until 9th October & Mental Health week commencing 10th October. The residents of Abbey Haven will enjoy interacting with farm animals from 2.30-3.30pm approx ... the sheer joy animal life brings to older people who no longer enjoy the interaction in their own homes.

RUN WALK N ROLL

The 20th annual Boyle fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research will take place in Boyle on Sunday 11th October at 2pm.Originally known as The Terry Fox run in 1986 and rebranded in 2011 to Run Walk n Roll .This is a 5.5 km run/walk for all the family young and old with refreshments served in St. Josephs Hall afterwards. For those who want a to push it on there is the perpetual trophy and it would be great to see some former winners there again this year. There will be a 20th anniversary wristband and Irish Cancer Society T-Shirt for all. Entry is €10 for adults and registration will take place in St Josephs Hall from 12.30. Concessions are available for children and families. Children on bicycles must be accompanied by an adult. Alf Monaghan will present a series of three illustrated talks focusing on Eastern influence on early Irish Christianity and the religions that preceded it. The result saw Gary Carty crowned as “Golfer of the Year 2015” for the second year running with Charlie O’Donnell 2nd and Jim Mooney 3rd. The weekly nine hole was won by Pat Conroy 20pts, 2nd Charlie O’Donnell 19pts.The Men’s, Ladies & Management monthly meetings will be taking place on Wednesday October 7th.
