Community Groups
Thursday 4th June at 8.00pm in King House: A new framework for public engagement and participation, called the Public Participation Network (PPN), has been established in County Roscommon. The PPN replaces the previous Community Forum and is the main link through which Roscommon County Council connects with the community, social inclusion and environmental sectors without prejudice to other consultation processes. Please ensure that your group is registered with the PPN. The purpose of these meetings is to:  Ensure that all groups within each municipal district are registered with the Public Participation Network:  Inform community groups about the role of the Public Participation Network Secretariat Please note that Registration Forms will be available on the night of each meeting, with registration commencing at 7.30pm. FUNDRAISING GOLF CLASSIC
Boyle Golf Club will host a fundraising Golf Classic for the Boyle Horse and Summer Show on Saturday 6th June from 9am. Format is a 4 ball Rumble. €25 per person, hot meal included. KING HOUSE EVENT
Revolted is a brace of solo plays by Donal O’Kelly to bark Bloomsday 2015. Joyced traces James Joyce’s odyssey through Dublin up to his departure into exile. The performance earned Katie O’Kelly a “Best Solo Performance” in Edinburgh. Hairy Jaysus tells the story of Joyce’s friend Sheehy-Skeffington, the forgotten executed man of 1916.  Sheehy-Skeffington was a pacifist and campaigner for votes for women. He was jailed under hard labour in June 1915, exactly a century ago for making forty speeches against recruitment to the British Army. Both shows together prompt the question – which was the more revolutionary in outlook - Sheehy-Skeffington or Joyce. Taking place on Thursday 11th June at 8pm in King House, Boyle. Tickets can be obtained in King House or for further information call 071 966 3242.

Registration for Toughest Muckers
Ireland’s Toughest Muckers challenge in Lough Key Forest Park will take place on June 13th 2015. Online registration for the event is now open. The organisers hope to run two events per year. To register log on to www.toughmucker.ie

Call for Creative Submissions
Calling all artists, photographers, designers and poets! Boyle Arts Festival invites you to enter two creative competitions in the run up to this summer’s spectacular festival- The Open Art Exhibition and Poetry Competition. Providing a forum for artists to display their work, Boyle Arts Festival Open Art Exhibition has grown to attract entries from all over Ireland, the West being particularly strongly represented. The work is selected on merit and entries have been selected from part-time, full-time and occasional artists, giving a unique blend and standard of excellence. Entrants are judged for three overall prizes, as well as a prize for ‘The Most Promising Artist Under 25′. The overall winner will be presented with the Sue Hill Perpetual Trophy. Entries will be accepted in any medium, to a maximum of 3 per person. If you would like to take part, works should be brought to the Church of Ireland School, Boyle (on the same road as the Garda Station and opposite the Family Life Centre) on: Friday, 3rd July between 4pm & 6pm.

Cookery Course
Cookery course will be held in St Joseph’s Resource Centre in Boyle on Tuesday 26th of May, from 6:30pm – 9pm. It’s all about easy-peasy and very yummy gluten, dairy and sugar free cooking and baking, with a focus on breakfast suggestions, snack ideas, desserts and bread making with a demonstration of a main meal that you can enjoy together with all the other samples you are going to taste. There will be loads and nobody will go home hungry! The evening will include recipes, as well as information and handouts on how to enjoy a healthy diet free of gluten, dairy and sugar. Just a few days left until the Duck Race that will take place on the Boyle River on Saturday, May 30th commencing at the bridge on Bridge Street at 1pm. Ducks will cost €5 each  1st Prize, €500, 2nd Prize €200 and 3rd €100. Cards are being distributed around the town so please make sure you get your duck early! Well done to Jim Mooney who won the  PGA Tankard on Sunday 17th May with 41pts, 2nd Gary Carty 40pts, Gross Charlie O’Donnell, 3rd Ross Andrew 38pts. Charlie O’Donnell is the new leader in the Golfer of the Year Competition. Thursday 16th May saw the night Men’s competition won by Niall Kearney 26pts, 2nd Owen Garvin 26pts, and 3rd John McGuinn 23pts. Fridays Scramble was won by Marie Gallagher, Jim Mooney, Michael Reid, & Michael Gilmartin, 2nd Niall Kearney, Criona O’Donnell & Paddy Nangle, 3rd Terry Canning, Michael Rush & Seamus Gallagher Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night, Friday is a nine hole scramble and next Sunday is an 18 Hole Stableford (Qualifier) The Club Foursomes semi-final pairings are Jim Mooney/Cillian Doyle V Jonathan Egan/Seamus Gallagher & Charlie O’Donnell/Ted Hestor V Michael Reid & Michael Gilmartin, Good luck to all the teams taking part. Upcoming King House concert
Ciaran O’Maonaigh and Caitlin Nic Gabhann are coming to King House on 20th May at 8pm. Ciaran plays the fiddle and Caitlin plays the concertina. These are two of the finest young musicians on the current traditional Irish music landscape. Caitlin is also an accomplished dancer, taking to her feet to accompany Ciaran’s melodic reels. Paths To Freedom & 1916
The two-day event will take the form of a day of lectures in King House on Friday May 22 and half day on Saturday 23rd May  followed by a musical evening on Saturday May 23 with broadcaster Myles Dungan the Master of Ceremonies on both days .  The lectures will feature well-known expert speakers from the worlds of TV, radio and academia, with a local perspective on Cumann na mBan and the struggle for women’s emancipation. An exciting musical evening has also been included in the programme this year which will fill King House with songs and stories from World War 1 performed by The Brook Singers, with soloists Sadhbh Burt Fitzgerald, Jonathan Creasy, actor/tenor Brendan MacQuaile, pianist Ronan Murray and Simon Morgan.

Workshops and Training on Green Opportunities
Community Groups, Enterprises and Individuals. The Accelerate Green Enterprise programme, based in Boyle, Co. Roscommon is offering a range of workshops and training for interested individuals, businesses and groups. All workshops are free and include themes such as - how to create viable business opportunities from natural resources, understanding the green customer of the future - and much more. The programme also offers an IdeaGen platform which will assist budding entrepreneurs with a green idea, seeking to test out the idea and receive advice on how to move it forward. Additional supports include: case study visits and general business mentoring / training. The Accelerate programme may be of interest to those currently unemployed / underemployed. Lough Key / Boyle Shuttle Bus 2015
Building on the success of the 2014 Pilot Shuttle Bus initiative, which provided over 400 passengers a valuable and inexpensive service we hope that the service will be provided again this season, with some changes to enhance the service based on feedback: Service will run three times daily, six days a week throughout July and August Departing Lough Key  at 11am, 3.00pm and 7.00pm Bus to be more visual with external music and departure information Internal Audio recording of history & culture of the area Ticket price to remain the same ... Adult €1 / children up to 16yrs only 50c cent. We realise that there are many demands on all businesses in Boyle at this time. We greatly appreciate and acknowledge the generosity received last year for our pilot initiative and we are again appealing for financial support which is vital to provide this excellent service.  Last year’s Shuttle Bus Initiative cost over €5,000 to run! The bus times have been changed to accommodate visitors’ avail of getting Provisions/Go shopping/ Eat out and come back to Boyle for Entertainment and slots also will coincide with the action packed schedule for Boyle Arts Festival. BOYLE MUSICAL SOCIETY AGM 2015
In their annual reports, the Society's Secretary Marie Kennedy, Chairperson Liz Gannon and Treasurer Benny Morgan thanked everyone involved for making this another very successful year for BMS. During the year, the Society was delighted to present the musical "Grease" as well as a Summer Concert and perform as Choir in St. Joseph's Church at a Christmas mass. Each made special mention and offered the Society's condolences on the untimely death of Committee member Aidan Callaghan. BMS Producer Viv Moran revealed details of the Society's next Musical.  "We're off to see the Wizard!" That's right, Boyle Musical Society are delighted to announce that this year's musical will be The Wizard Of Oz. Everybody will be familiar with the classic 1939 MGM film, starring Judy Garland and the BMS production will be a special treat for all the family. The Wizard of Oz will open in St. Joseph's Hall, Boyle on Wed. November 18th and continue until Sunday November 22nd. Rehearsals will commence on Monday August 31st.

BOYLE GOLF CLUB
On Sunday10th May the Holmpatrick Cup results are as follows, 1st Prize Charlie O’Donnell &Terry Canning, 2nd Prize Brendan Gaffney & Jonathan Egan, and 3rd Prize John McGuinn & Pat Conroy. Thursday7th May saw the Men’s Competition won by Gerry O’Hara 26pts, 2nd Owen Garvan 26pts, 3rd Lorcan Egan 25pts. Fridays Scramble was won by Brendan Gaffney, Michael Reid, Mary Lombard & Michael Gilmartin. Date for your diary is the Committee Cup on Saturday/Sunday May 30th/31st. This will be the first “Major” of the year and open to Ladies and Gents. Format is 18 hole stroke and the top ladies and gents will play a final nine holes on Sunday evening. There are two 18 hole qualifiers during May for those wishing to get cards in.

THE LOUGH KEY CLASSIC
The 60/120 routes & King of the Mountain Challenge takes place on Saturday May 16th starts and finishes in Boyle Co Roscommon. Enjoy the beauty of Lough Key County and take in the views from the Curlieu Mountains in this challenging event. Sign on in the Sports Complex on Friday 15th May from 7pm until 8.30pm and Saturday 16th from 7.30am until 8.45am. Starting time on Saturday 16th will be 9am for the 120k and King of the Mountains with the 60k starting soon after at 10am. Refreshment will be served after the event. Showers will also be available. MAY ACTION MONTH FOR TIDY TOWNS
We need everyone to get out and do their bit please on Friday May 15th for a massive cleanup meeting on The Crescent at 6.30pm. We are asking for 2hrs to do a blitz of all approach roads. Please come out and help, bags and gloves provided and Refreshments afterwards.  Let’s get into the Community Spirit on Thursday May 21st Sweep Hour. We are asking every premises/business owner/tenant to come out with your brush at 12 noon and sweep the pavement 12 noon in front of your premises. We will arrange the road sweeper for the following day. Let’s make this a major event.

KING HOUSE SALON SESSION
Ciaran O Maonaigh is a fiddle player from Donegal. A noted musician he is no stranger to touring and his virtuosity and charismatic stage presence, make him a natural performer. This time he in on the road with Caitllin Nic Gabhan, three times winner of the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil on concertina and a regular performer at festivals and in concert halls around the world. This pairing brings together two of the finest instrumentalists on the Irish traditional scene and is brought to you in association with Age & Opportunity as part of Bealtaine 2015. Thanks to all who supported the weekend golf and the Quiz and Curry on Friday 1st May night. The Quiz was won by the Egan family of Moira, Vincent, Lorcan and Paddy (parachuted in from Oughterard), 2nd Kathleen Hanmore, Marie Kennedy, John Compton (Strokestown) and Gary Carty. A Special thanks to Susan and Brendan for organising and sponsoring prizes, Mary for the lovely food, to Vincent and Gary for looking after the Bar and to Frank O’Mahoney for his sponsorship.  Thanks also to Strokestown Golf Club for their support. Thursday 30th April saw the Men’s competition won by Gerry Carty 27pts, 2nd Gary Carty 27pts, and 3rd Ross Andrew 26pts.  Fridays scramble was won by Charlie O’Donnell, Carmel Keenan & Michael Rush, (courtesy of an eagle on the 8th), 2nd Marie Kennedy, John Compton & Kathleen Hanmore.  A special well done to Kathleen and Marie who were prize-winners in their first scramble (a sign of things to come), 3rd Sean Heslin, Regina McLoughlin & Eamon Perry. Date for your diary is the Committee Cup on Saturday/Sunday May 30th/31st. This will be the first “Major” of the year and open to Ladies and Gents. Format is 18 hole stroke with Ladies playing Saturday and Gents on Sunday. The top ladies and gents will play a final nine holes on Sunday evening. There are two 18 hole qualifiers during May for those wishing to get cards in. The Horse and Summer Show Classic takes place this Saturday June 6th. Details to follow. Members are reminded that 2015 membership is due, thanks to all have paid to date.

The pace will be very leisurely and totally focussed on the social aspect of cycling.
We will cover whatever distance you are comfortable with and stop for tea/coffee and refreshments during or after the spin.
Current members will accompany you every step of the way.

The Market is open from 10am to 2pm each and every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to Boyle Farmers’ Market on Saturday should be on your agenda. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters selling their handmade wares, personalized candles and knitwear.
