Boyle Community Notes Week beginning 3rd November (Week 44)

COMMUNITY STALL AVAILABLE
Boyle Farmers Market has a "Community Stall" available in our new all-weather Farmers Market. The idea is to have a different community group attend each week to promote, showcase your wares, raise awareness of your organisation or group etc. This is for community only. We would love to hear from any groups interested in getting involved... please contact us here or email Janice on info@unabhan.ie for more details. The stall will be free and you will be a guest of the market for that day. We would love to hear from groups such as the ICA, the Scouts, Tidy Towns and so on. Please share with anyone you know that might be interested.

Coffee Morning for Special Needs
Special Needs Parents Association: Information & Support Group Coffee Morning takes place at the Open Table Coffee Shop. Boyle at 10am until 12noon on Tuesday 3rd November. All Parents/Carers are welcome to attend. TICKET OFFICE oPEN 
The BMS ticket office will be open on from 12:30pm to 2:30pm on Saturday, November 7th and every day (excluding Sunday) during the same hours, from Thursday November 12th until Saturday November 21st A detailed seating plan will soon be available on www.boylemusicalsociety.com. Tickets can also be booked by telephone on the BMS Ticketline 087 4342011. This line will be open during booking office hours only. We also accept credit card bookings. The Wizard of Oz will open at 8pm on Wednesday November 18th and continue until Sunday November 22nd in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle. There will also be a special matinée performance on Sunday 22nd at 3pm. Tickets are priced at €12 for the Wednesday and Thursday performances only. All other performances are €15 and children’s tickets for the Sunday matinée are €10. Please note that there is no booking available for the Wednesday and Thursday performances.

Ardcarne Garden Centres - Christmas Shops
On Friday 6th November at 5am until 8pm why not come along to The Grand Opening of the Christmas Shops at Ardcarne Garden Centres, Boyle & Roscommon Town, with celebrations continuing all weekend. This eagerly awaited event is a great family occasion every year combining hospitality and entertainment with a sense of community. Enjoy a complementary glass of mulled wine and mince pies while soaking up the magical Christmas atmosphere and help support your local Roscommon/Mayo Hospice. Boyle & District Angling Club
The club will be holding their annual Angler of The Year Competition which will take place onLough Scur on Sunday 8th November from 10am until 4pm. This event is for Club Members and will be a boat competition.

Service of Remembrance in Boyle
At 2pm on Sunday 8th November 2015 in the grounds of King House, the Connaught Rangers Association will be holding their annual Service of Remembrance. This is to remember all Irish victims of conflict worldwide and in particular the men of Boyle who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918. 126 men of Boyle were victims in this particular conflict and the centenary of the deaths of 30 of these men falls in 2030. 13 of these men were killed at Gallipoli. As is our custom during these centenary years we will read out the names of these 30 men. Afterwards at about 2.45pm the renowned author Philip Lecane will give a talk on the Gallipoli landings on 25th April 1915. He will be using the diorama produced by Boyle Men’s Shed which has been on show in King House all year as a back cloth to this talk. Philip will be taking extracts from his new book Beneath A Turkish Sun as the basis for his talk. All are invited to either or both of these events.

Big thanks to all who took part or supported the weekend of 24/25th October’s fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society. The Coffee Morning and Golf Classic was a great success. Full details of results and funds raised will be published next week. The following Club AGM’s take place in November. Ladies AGM Sunday November 1st, Men’s AGM Sunday November 15th & Parent Club AGM Sunday November 22nd. Notices will be sent to members via email, text or post. Lough SpooKey Halloween Events will be taking place from 25th October with lots of spooky happenings including Balloon Modelling, Pumpkin Carving, Story Telling, Halloween Craft and Baking, Witch and Monster Treasure Hunt.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT COURSE
Wednesday October 28th will see a one day course on Human Resource Management at Boyle Enterprise Centre. The course is geared towards Owners/Managers and covers key employment areas including Statutory Responsibilities, Employment Legislation, Contracts, Performance Management, Job Descriptions & Grievance/Disciplinary procedures. McALEESE COLLECTION
President Mary McAleese has donated more than 60 gifts to the State she received during her 14 years in office and has been launched in King House and will prove to be a major visitor attraction.  Many of those items were presented by Heads of State from around the world, including Barack Obama and Yasser Arafat. To have some of these presentations now on permanent display at King House in Boyle will certainly prove to be a major attraction for visitors at home and abroad. King House will be open Monday to Friday from 11an until 4pm up until Friday 30th October. Undoubtedly, the collection will enhance the visitor experience at King House.

Tickets are now on sale for the Boyle Celtic Fuel Draw which will take place in Dodd’s Crescent Bar on Saturday 31st October. Tickets are available from players, committee members and retail outlets in the area. Great prizes to be won.

A workshop on how food tourism can enhance your marketing and drive sales
In response to the greater emphasis our international visitors place on food as part of their overall holiday experience, Fáilte Ireland has developed Ireland’s Food Story – a resource packed full of engaging content and inspirational advice to help you capitalise on this growing trend. This three hour workshop will provide practical tips and advice on how to write a food story for your business and how it can deliver additional business. This workshop will take place on Tuesday 20th October in Gleesons Town House, Roscommon Town at 2pm with registration from 1.30 and should last around 3 hours. This workshop is fully subsidised by Fáilte Ireland

Taking place in the Family Life Centre, Boyle on Friday 23rd October at 7.30pm until 8. 30pm a free information evening – on how your speech can help teach you the techniques of public speaking.

RELAXATION AND PAMPER DAY
Tawnytaskin Community Centre, Boyle will host a Relaxation and Pamper day on Sunday 25th October from 6pm until 8pm which will include hand and back massage, a relaxation booth, essential oils and much more. This event is expected to fill the centre so come early to avail of free advice and sample treatments. Admission is free on the night.

The second round of the winter league took place at the weekend of 12/13th October. Team Heslin are the new leaders on 235pts followed by Team Gaffney on 229pts and Team McGuinn in 3rd place on 225pts. Highlights of the second round include Gary Carty (GOY) & Eamon Perry 47pts (fourball), Michael Reid & Tommy King 44pts (fourball), Lionel Lynn 43pts (singles) & Liz Dwyer 40pts (singles). The weekly nine hole was won by Michael Gilmartin 22pts, 2nd Michael Simon 22pts, 3rd Michael Bannon 21pts. The weekly nine hole runs from Monday – Sunday Date for your diary is the Golf Classic in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society on the October Bank Holiday weekend. (Saturday, Sunday & Monday) Format is a four team rumble at €100 per team including meal.A coffee morning and cake sale will also take place in the club house on the Saturday. A raffle will take place over the weekend with prizes including tickets for Leinster V Connacht in the RDS on New Year ’s Day. Full details on notice board. the club are delighted to announce a funding offer of €55,000 from the Sports Capital Fund. Thanks to all who organised and supported the application.  The funding will be used for a new practice area adjacent to the car part to include chipping area and driving nets, course drainage on selected holes and purchase of course machinery. Galilee Community
Alf Monaghan will present a series of three illustrated talks focusing on Eastern influence on early Irish Christianity and the religions that preceded it. Location is Galilee Community, Tintagh, Boyle, (near the Gaelic Chieftain on the Sligo/Dublin Road). Food Producer event

Walk the world
walk with us in aid of the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Society on Saturday 17th October at 2pm commencing at Cooney Motors show room, Greatmeadow. Registration forms can be had at the till in store. This is in aid of a great cause, so please walk or donate.

ARDCARNE ART CLASSES
Art Classes at Ardcarne Garden Centre Boyle will start again on Friday 9th October for six weeks. Please ring 071 966 7091 to book a place.

POSITIVE AGEING WEEK
As part of the community involvement Abbey Haven celebrates Positive Ageing Week up until 9th October & Mental Health week commencing 10th October. The residents of Abbey Haven will enjoy interacting with farm animals from 2.30-3.30pm approx ... the sheer joy animal life brings to older people who no longer enjoy the interaction in their own homes.

RUN WALK N ROLL
The 20th annual Boyle fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research will take place in Boyle on Sunday 11th October at 2pm.Originally known as The Terry Fox run in 1986 and rebranded in 2011 to Run Walk n Roll .This is a 5.5 km run/walk for all the family young and old with refreshments served in St. Josephs Hall afterwards. For those who want a to push it on there is the perpetual trophy and it would be great to see some former winners there again this year. There will be a 20th anniversary wristband and Irish Cancer Society T-Shirt for all. Entry is €10 for adults and registration will take place in St Josephs Hall from 12.30. Concessions are available for children and families. Children on bicycles must be accompanied by an adult. Galilee Community
Alf Monaghan will present a series of three illustrated talks focusing on Eastern influence on early Irish Christianity and the religions that preceded it. Location is Galilee Community, Tintagh, Boyle, (near the Gaelic Chieftain on the Sligo/Dublin Road). McAleese Collection
President Mary McAleese has donated more than 60 gifts to the State she received during her 14 years in office and will be launched on Friday October 16th in King House and will prove to be major visitor attraction.  Many of those items were presented by Heads of State from around the world, including Barack Obama and Yasser Arafat. To have some of these presentations now on permanent display at King House in Boyle will certainly prove to be a major attraction for visitors at home and abroad. Undoubtedly, the collection will enhance the visitor experience at King House. 

Walk the world
walk with us in aid of the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Society on Saturday 17th October at 2pm commencing at Cooney Motors show room, Greatmeadow. Registration forms can be had at the till in store. This is in aid of a great cause, so please walk or donate.

Boyle Badminton
Badminton resumes on Monday nights.  Registration for the year is €50 and this needs to be paid by October 12th. If you are registered with another club then you can register in Boyle Badminton Club for €25 After October 12th Registration will cost €70. Celtic Draw
Tickets are now on sale for the Boyle Celtic Fuel Draw which will take place in Dodd’s Crescent Bar on Saturday 31st October. Tickets are available from players, committee members and retail outlets in the area. Great prizes to be won.

The Market is open from 10am to 2pm each and every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle, with special offers on some stalls each week. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to Boyle Farmers’ Market on Saturday should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, including organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices, gluten free/ sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters selling their handmade wares, personalized candles and knitwear. Well done to Brendan & Susan Gaffney who were presented with the Boyle
Motor Works Cup Sunday 26th September following their win in the Boyle
Motor Works Mixed Foursomes. At the presentation Brendan was presented with a special trophy following his hole in one during the competition. The full results are as follows 1st Brendan & Susan Gaffney, 2nd Patrick Egan & Claire Cryan,
3rdJohn McGuinn & Paula Cull. On Sunday 27th saw the eighteen hole won by Tommy King with a score of 62,2nd Jim Mooney (63), Gross Gary Carty, and 3rd Pat Conroy (65). The result saw Gary Carty crowned as “Golfer of the Year 2015” for the second year running with Charlie O’Donnell 2nd and Jim Mooney 3rd. The weekly nine hole was won by Pat Conroy 20pts, 2nd Charlie O’Donnell 19pts.The Men’s, Ladies & Management monthly meetings will be taking place on Wednesday October 7th.
