HOW TO GROW ORGANIC VEGETABLES
Croghan Organic Garden will be holding a 20-week event commencing Wednesday 2nd May from 2pm until 4pm. All aspects of growing are covered, seed sowing, soil preparation, aftercare of crops and harvesting. ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE BOYLE
A Summer Container Demonstration will take place on Saturday 5th May, were you will discover how to plant your containers, and which plants to give the best show On Saturday 12th there will also be a demonstration on Gardening for Pollinators with Wildlife expert Michael Bell, learn how to attract valuable pollinating insects to your garden. These are Free events, all welcome.

TUITION IN BOYLE

FAMILY FUN DAY AT CAVETOWN LAKE
Cavetown Residents Development Association will hold a Family Fun Day on Sunday May 6th at Cavetown Lake. There will be something for all the family on the day. Kids novelty event, face painting, BBQ, craft display’s, fairy forest walk, best dressed up costume and numerous other events. The day gets underway at 2pm and all are welcome to attend.

BOYLE CAMERA CLUB
On Friday, May 11th Boyle Camera Club members will photograph people in the town of Boyle for a special project – ‘Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018’. Like every society in Ireland, Boyle is changing. Our community is made up of people from a range of backgrounds, cultures and places. One thing they do have in common is a decision to live or work in Boyle, and they are all actively shaping how our community works and the way our town will develop beyond 2018.

Darkness into Light is an Annual 5k Walk/Run in aid of Pieta House. On Saturday the 12th of May a community will come together at St Joseph’s Hall and walk in support of positive mental health. This is a truly unique experience made by YOU. Family, friends and friends you haven't met yet gathering in support of those who may be struggling or those we have lost. Together we stand together as a community and shine a beacon of light and hope. This will be Boyle's second year to host the world wide event.

BOYLE MUSICAL SOCIETY UPDATE
At a well-attended AGM in An Craoibhín last week, The Addams Family was revealed as the title of this year’s Boyle Musical Society show. It will run for four nights from November 21st to 24th in St. Joseph’s Hall. Following reports from the outgoing Chairperson and Secretary and the Treasurer’s report, the new committee was selected. Two new members, Colette Noone and Majella Gaffney were welcomed to the committee following the departure of Irene Madden and Sean O’Dowd, both of whom have stepped down this year. KING HOUSE TO HOST VÓTÁIL 100
 “Vótáil 100 – Votes for Women” Will be held in King House this April. Boyle has been chosen to host the event due to its connection with Margaret Cousins, she was an  educationist, suffragist and theosophist who established the All India Women’s Conference. Margaret was born on 7th November 1878 and lived on the Crescent in Boyle, There will be  a wide panel of speakers including Senator Ivana Bacik, Mary McAuliffe (UCD), Claire McGing (Maynooth University) and Sandra Collins (Director National Library of Ireland). Maire Egan Paul and Keith Monro will talk about ‘Margaret Cousins and the Irish Women’s Franchise League’. This is a full day conference will be held on Wednesday April 25th, starting at 9am to 5pm. The games will be held at Abbey Community College Playing Fields on Friday 27th April at 6pm with registration from 5:30pm. Tiny Tots Race  Under 8,  60 metres 80 metres, Under 10, 100 metres 200 metres 100 metre hurdles Under 12, 100 metres 600 metres  Ball Throw Long Puck (Boys) Under 14,100 metres 100 metres hurdles  800 metres Long Puck (Girls) Under 16, 1,500 metres. Mothers Race and Fathers Race. Every competitor MUST be under the age category in which they compete  on July 31st this year  e.g under 8 on July 31st, 2018 to be eligible for under 8 competition. Entry fee is €2 per child. Refresehments will be available at the sports complex.

CREATIVE FRAME/SLR FILM PROJECT
Creative Frame in partnership with SLR Film are hosting a panel discussion and workshop for writers and filmmakers based in the three counties in King House Boyle on Friday 27th April. The panel will consist of writers who have successfully worked in film and filmmakers who have collaborated with writers in the development of film projects. Ferdia MacAnna will chair the discussion with writers Brian Leyden and Eoin McNamee and film makers Marian Quinn and Linda Bhreathnach. Update 13th April

END THE WINTER HIBNERATION
As part of the Health & Wellbeing programme Boyle GAA are running a couch to 5K twice a week for the next 8 weeks, starting on Monday 16th April.  This programme is aimed at complete beginners and anyone who needs to get back into fitness.  It is a very gradual build-up of running over the weeks.  Initially it will be 25mins on Mondays and Thursdays. Meet at the GAA Clubhouse at 7pm on the 16th April. Spread the word "Lets Get Active"

BOYLE MUSICAL SOCIETY AGM
Following on from the success of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ last year, the Committee and Production team of Boyle Musical Society are currently considering a number of shows for this year’s production. 2018 will see the Society present their 35th annual musical and plans are being put in place to make it something very special indeed.
All will be revealed at the Boyle Musical Society AGM, which will take place at 8:30pm on Thursday April 19th in An Craoibhín. All past and present members are invited to attend along with anybody interested in joining the Society.

FAMILY PICNIC DAY IN FOREST PARK
Bishop Kevin Doran is inviting families across the 37 parishes of the Diocese of Elphin to a family picnic fun day in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle on Sunday 22nd April 2018. The celebration is part of diocesan preparations for the World Meeting of Families which will take place in August 2018. Speaking at the event launch at the Forest Park on Saturday, Bishop Kevin said, “this is a celebration of family in an atmosphere of fun, sharing and friendship. Families of other religious traditions and of none are our neighbours and friends and I want them to feel most welcome on this family day.  The day will begin at 1pm and continue until 6pm with an official opening at 2.30pm. There will be face painting, dance workshops and outdoor games to play.  Musicians, singers and choirs will share their gifts and create a family atmosphere.  Families may choose to do some of the walks around the park and gain some insight into the history of Lough Key Forest Park.  An opportunity will also be available to explore the beauty of creation and consider how we can care for our common home. Families can discover the Family Cube, a resource to help families on their journey of faith and love. Admission to the event is free, with free parking.  Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic or avail of Lough Key’s on-site catering.  BBQ’s are permitted.  Families are also invited to bring a bit of extra food for a sharing table. A programme of events for the day will be available shortly.

NATIONAL SPRING CLEAN
This year is the 20th Anniversary of National Spring Clean which is Ireland’s largest and longest running anti-litter campaign and we need your help! April is National Spring Clean Month and we would encourage all groups in County Roscommon to get involved and organise a clean up in their area. All participating groups will receive a litter clean up kit with all the materials they need and our litter warden will remove the bags of collected litter.
Register with An Taisce www.nationalspringclean.org  or telephone 01 4002219 – this is for insurance purposes and you will also receive clean up materials  Let us know when you clean up is on Tel: 1850 L-I-T-T-E-R (1850 54 88 37) and arrange collection of bags of litter.  Additional materials requests (please do this  5 days in advance of your clean up as the Litter Wardens are really busy this time of year)

ADULT TENNIS COMMENCES IN BOYLE
Anyone thinking of dusting down their old tennis rackets or indeed buying themselves a new one? Adult tennis for fun will take place in Boyle Tennis Club on Wednesday mornings at 11am starting Wednesday 11th April. Beginners and all levels are welcome. NATIONAL TRANSPORT AUTHORITY
The Boyle to Lough Key Forest Park Service from King House Bus Stop is now up and running until 31st October 2018.  The Lough Key Forest Park Service links visitors to the park seven days per week, providing four return scheduled services daily. It also serves Boyle Marina.

CASTLECOOTE HOUSE MYTHS & HISTORY
Castlecoote House is hosting a second series of Myth & History Series of talks. The next one will take place on Thursday 12th April this called a Jew in the Margins: Paul of Tarsus the “Founder “of Christianity. Talk will be given by Dr Luke Macnamara. Darkness into Light is an Annual 5k Walk/Run in aid of Pieta House. On Saturday the 12th of May a community will come together at St Joseph’s Hall and walk in support of positive mental health. This is a truly unique experience made by YOU. Family, friends and friends you haven't met yet gathering in support of those who may be struggling or those we have lost. Together we stand together as a community and shine a beacon of light and hope. This will be Boyle's second year to host the world wide event.

COURTYARD MARKET
The Market takes place every Saturday in the Grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, Vegetarian take home as well as organic fruit and vegetables, their handmade wares.
