St Stephen's Day Treasure Hunt
The annual St Stephen's Day Treasure Hunt in aid of Hospice will take place in Lough Key Forest & Activity Park on Tuesday 26th December at 2.30pm. Information sheets will be given out in Answer the park and completed sheets to be handed in at Clarke's Bar & Restaurant, St Patrick Street, Boyle where winners will be announced.

Boyle GAA annual quiz night
A very important date for your diary is Wednesday December 27th – the date for the Annual GAA quiz and presentation night. Pit your wits against the best quiz brains in Boyle and surrounding areas for some very nice prizes. Player of the Year, Club person of the Year and Hall of Fame awards will be presented on the night and the jubilant O’ Gara Cup winners will receive their medals from Boyle man and County Board Chairman, Seamus Sweeney. A signed and mounted copy of one of Gaelic Football’s iconic images of 2017 is one of the many attractive raffle prizes to be won at the Quiz night. The picture, signed by Donal and Enda Smith brilliantly captures the celebrations after the Connacht Senior Final. Boyle GAA quiz night commences at 8pm and is always a great social occasion over the Christmas period.

FUN RUN & WALK
Lough Key Forest Park will be the venue for a 5k Fun Run and Walk for Children with Autism taking place on Wednesday 27th December at 2pm with registration taking place at 1.30. BOYLE GOLF CLUB
The Clubs Christmas Bonanza Competition was played on Sunday the 17th of December. Shane Loftus came 1st in the men’s competition with 32 points, the next 3 places in the men’s section went to David Purser, Terry Canning and Ross Andrew, who each had 31 points and were separated only on countback. Ruth Hogg won the ladies’ section with Carmel McGarry in 2nd place. 3rd and 4th went to Paula Cull and Moira Egan respectively. At the prize-giving Men’s Captain Terry Canning presented Patrick Egan with a trophy for topping the order of merit for Golfer of the Year 2017. Raffle prizes were won by Michael Simon, Michael Rush, Patrick Egan, Susan O’Mahoney, Michael Gilmartin, Jonathan Egan and Marie Gallagher. On the Wednesday 27th of December a Christmas 9 hole Ladies and Gents Scramble will take place. Names need to be in for the draw for teams at 12.45 with a shotgun start at 1pm..

Women’s Little Christmas
The 4th "Women’s Little Christmas " Black Dress Ladies Lunch takes place on Sunday the 7th January 2018 in the beautiful setting of Kilronan Castle, Ballyfarnon, Co. Roscommon. Guest speaker on the day is the inspirational Nikki Bradley. MC on the day is Eileen Magnier who is a voluntary member of the Board of Directors of North West Simon Community. Boyle Christmas Lights Draw
The Christmas Lights team thank sincerely all who gave of their time and expertise to the Switching on of the Lights in Boyle this year - Boyle Fire Service, DJ Dermot, the Fishing Club, Gardaí, Boyle Scouts,  Winners of the Art Competition, Abbey Community College Transition Year students, the many volunteers who assisted on the day and last but not least the man himself - Santa. The Christmas Lights team are appealing to all businesses to promote the Raffle Cards (for funding the lights) over the coming days with €1000+ cash prizes to be won. The draw will take place on 5th January. One of the team of Brian, Dara, Mervyn, Tish, Liz, Deirdre, Tony, Brendan or Siobhan will be calling on you  week of 2nd January to collect your completed cards. The team of volunteers who have been fundraising for the town lights over the last number of years appeal to you to have your cards and/or subscription ready for collection. Our Christmas Lights have cost over €30000 with an annual running cost of almost €4000. Fundraising through the Christmas Raffle and  the Good Friday Quiz are the only means of paying for our lights and ensuring Boyle looks spectacular at this festive time. The Lights crew thank you for your continued support.

Senator Frank Feighan has received confirmation from the HSE that the new Boyle Primary Care Centre will open to the public for services on Tuesday, January 9th. “The delays regarding the HSE’s operational timelines  have been disappointing but I can categorically state that the state-of-the-art facility will now open on this date. “The day before the centre’s official opening, there will be an open day.

The Market takes place every Saturday in the Grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm...If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, Vegetarian hot meals to eat here or take home as well as organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free-range eggs, sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. Christmas Experience at Tullyboy Farm
The atmosphere is buzzing with excitement. The pudding is being made, Santa’s bags are being packed and the Elves are eager to bring you through the ten stages of the Tullyboy Farm Christmas Experience. Parents and children can warm themselves with hot chocolate and marshmallows and mulled juices/mince pies in the Yuletide Kitchen where you can also help out with string the pudding and don’t forget to make your wish. Hear the story of Christmas in front of the big fire in the inglenook fireplace, then up the spiral staircase to Santa’s bedroom to see Santa’s old fashioned bed and the naughty elf. Winter Solstice Bake

St Joseph’s BNS Christmas Draw
St. Joseph’s Boys National School Parents Association Monster Christmas Draw will take place on Thursday December 21st in the school. Proceeds from the draw will go towards ICT equipment for the school. Please support this worthy cause.

KING HOUSE TEA ROOMS

Christmas Day swim
The 14th annual Lough Arrow Christmas Day swim will take place at 1pm sharp at Brick Pier with registration from 12.30pm All proceeds will go to the North West Hospice. DJ and drinks on the day with all welcome to attend. A rugby jersey signed by Gordon Darcy will be raffled on the day.

DEAR SANTa
Have you got a little someone who would like to receive a personal letter from the man in red himself this December?  Una Bhan Craft Shop has established a direct line to Santa Claus and has arranged for him to reply to children's letters. Your child can write their letter to Santa and post it in the ‘Special Santa Box’ in the Una Bhan Craft Shop, €5 per child (to cover admin charges - no stamp required!), then leave the rest to us.  Make sure your child includes their full name, address, age and special requests for Christmas and include a mention of any brothers, sisters or special friends so the reply can be really personal. We will make sure that Santa gets to read each letter and write a personal letter back, which will be posted directly to the child. Santa’s Letter Service will up until Saturday 16th December.

CHRISTMAS SUNDAY & LOUGH KEY
An afternoon of Free Festive fun will be taking place in Lough Key on Sunday 17th December with Reindeer Face Painting. Enjoy the outdoor nativity scene and say hello to the local donkey and some sheep. Santa will arrive with his helpers to say hello and would love to have his photo taken with you all. All this along with festive singing, minced pies, and mulled wine.

ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH NOTES
Ecumenical Carol Service: The Annual Ecumenical Service will be held in St. Joseph’s Church on Thursday 14th December at 8pm. Included will be a collection in aid of Mayo / Sligo Hospice. Penitential Service: Penitential Service in preparation for Christmas will take place on Sunday 17th December at 7pm. Galilee Community Christmas Reflection: Christmas Reflection on Thursday 14th December at 8pm. ‘Christ the Saviour is Born’. Prayer and Refreshments. Contact: 071- 9664101. New Church Lighting: Some of the work is completed, lights shining on the walls are not complete and also some of the outside lighting. All will be completed in the New Year as we are waiting for some fittings.

CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT
Elphin Boxing Club will hold its second annual Christmas Tournament in Elphin Hall on Sunday 17th December with the first bout taking place at 2pm sharp. Visiting clubs will be travelling from such counties as Roscommon, Westmeath, Sligo, Longford, Mayo and Galway. There'll be a variety of bouts on the night showcasing the boxing talent for visiting clubs and that of the local Elphin boxers. Admission on the night will be €10 per adult and €5 per minor but family concessions on the night as usual. Refreshments on the night. Please come and support your local boxers as they will no doubt do their Club proud.

Book launch in King House
The fifth chapbook is being launched by Gerry Boland in King House, Boyle, at 5pm on Friday 8th December. There will be refreshments and an open-mic afterwards with music, poems, and very short stories - so the evening will be interesting and hopefully fun. Come punctually to put your name down to perform, and also to buy a book or two (for the poem people in your life)

FESTIVE FLORAL DECOR
Lough Key Forrest and Activity Parek will host two Christmas Workshops with the very talented Florist Chantelle Kennedy, Pure Flowers of Distincion. The first one which will take place on Wednesday 6th December from 10am until 12 midday will be how to create a Christmas Garland and then one on Wednesday 13th  December form 10am 12 midday with Chantelle creating a Christmas Table Centrepiece.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Taking place in the Church of Ireland Boyle on 9th December at 7.30pm the Christmas Concert which will include the Serendipity Singers and the Nightingals with Ilse Lubbers and Derek Mahady on the Organ. Performing seasonal works and Haydn's Little Organ Mass

Boyle Ladies GAA – AGM
Boyle Ladies AGM will take place in the clubhouse on Sunday November 26th at 5pm. All coaches, players, parents and everyone interested in the development of ladies football in Boyle is invited to attend. This will be a great opportunity to discuss new ideas and initiatives for the club.

COOTEHALL N.S. ENROLMENT
St. Michael’s & St. Patrick’s N.S. ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE
FREE Garden Bird Event, Ardcarne Garden Centre, Boyle, on Sunday 26th November at 2pm. Join Jamie Durrant from Bird Watch Ireland and find out how to feed birds effectively with the best types of food and feeders. You’ll also discover how to identify different birds and how to encourage them to nest in your garden. All welcome.

LOUGH KEY SANTA DASH
A Santa Dash will be taking place on Sunday 3rd December in Lough Key. Boyle at 12 noon. Medals and category trophies open 040/50/60 and u 10/12/14. Register on line at www.myrunresults.com or on the day from 11am. Refreshments afterwards.

BMS TICKETS
Tickets can be purchased from the following outlets in Boyle. Taylor’s Jewellers on Bridge St., Mary Magee’s on Main St. and Unabhán in King House. ‘Joseph…’ will be staged in St. Joseph’s Church from Thursday November 23rd to Saturday November 25th and the performances will be at 8:30pm nightly. Tickets are priced at €15 but special concessions of €10 tickets for children, students and senior citizens, will be available for Thursday night’s show. Tickets will also be available at the door, each night. Because of the change of venue this year, there is no specific seat allocation but a reserved area will be allocated to pre-purchased tickets. The earlier you arrive at the performance, the better your choice of seat in this area. Tickets can also be booked by telephone on the BMS Ticketline, 087 2736740. The show is based on ‘The Coat of Many Colours’ from the book of Genesis, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and text by Tim Rice and BMS are  very fortunate to be able to present it this year, in the atmospheric surroundings of St. Joseph’s Church. MOVEMBER NIAMHBER FUNDRAISER
For the month of November a group of Boyle gentlemen will be attempting to grow and tame some moustaches in a  ‘Movember’ campaign or ‘Niamhember’ as they are calling it to raise funds in aid of ” Niamh’s Journey There”. Let’s hope there is good growth during November and it brings with it a whole host of silly, bizarre, and overly ambitious moustache attempts! Please support anyone you see during the month with any sort of an attempt at a moustache!

Dates for Christmas Fair & Market
Plans are well progressed for this year’s Christmas Outdoor Market in the grounds of King House and Craft Fair in King House, Boyle. The Markets take place on Friday December 1st and Saturday December 2nd. On Friday, events commence at 5pm, concluding at 9pm On Saturday the markets and fair are open from 10am until 7pm. Piano Practice and Exams
The Royal Academy of Music will hold their Piano Exams in King House, Boyle on the 27th 28th and 29th of November, also on the 4th 5th and 6th of December, Anyone wishing to avail of piano practice, can book a practice session for Saturday the 18th of November and Saturday the 25th of November, please ring 0719663242.

St. Joseph’s Boys National School Parents Association Monster Christmas Draw will take place on Thursday December 21st in the school. Proceeds from the draw will go towards ICT equipment for the school. Please support this worthy cause.

The Men’s 18 Hole Stableford held on Sunday the 12th of November was won by the new Greens Convener, Michael Rush, with a score of 39 points. In second place was Gary Carty with 38 points, the best gross score went to Patrick Egan, and in third was Frank Flanagan with 37 points.

Update 10th November

BOYLE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
The Boyle Christmas Lights Team will distribute Raffle cards to ALL Businesses over the coming days for the Annual Cash Draw with prizes in excess of €1,000 to be won. The team appeals to all Businesses to promote the raffle and encourage maximum sales. The annual running costs of the lights is approx. €5,000 and we are this year faced with an additional cost of installing a new infrastructure/upgrading system to accommodate the lights to a RECI approved standard. The erection of the lights commenced Tuesday 7th November in Boyle and again we appeal to anyone, especially Boyle business owners who can lend a hand for a couple of hours. If you’d like to get involved please call Dara on 086 406 6976. The scheduled nights over the next 10 days are this evening (Wednesday 8th) at 6.30pm at the Crescent and Tues 14th & Wednesday 15th November. It takes approx. 500 voluntary man hours to erect and take down the lights, thus help would greatly be appreciated.

Zombie outbreak at King House
“Zombie Science: Worst Case Scenario” will be held in King House on Wednesday 15th November. Held as part of Sligo Science Festival, the event commences at 7pm. It is open to all over 13 and is a free event. To guarantee a seat – email melia.oli@itsligo.ie or call into King House. Zombie Science: Worst Case Scenario is a spoof tutorial on the real science behind a Zombie epidemic. The tutorial puts the audience at the heart of a hypothetical Zombieism outbreak and teaches them what to do when the inevitable Zombie pandemic occurs. The tutorial features a multi-media presentation, practical demonstrations and audience participation.

BMS TICKETS NOW ON SALE
With just three weeks to go until opening night, Boyle Musical Society  are delighted to announce that tickets for their eagerly anticipated new show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat  are now on sale. Tickets can be purchased from the following outlets in Boyle. Taylor’s Jewellers on Bridge St., Mary Magee’s on Main St. and Unabhán in King House. ‘Joseph…’ will be staged in St. Joseph’s Church from Thursday November 23rd to Saturday November 25th and the performances will be at 8:30pm nightly. Tickets are priced at €15 but special concessions of €10 tickets for children, students and senior citizens, will be available for Thursday night’s show. Tickets will also be available at the door, each night.
Because of the change of venue this year, there is no specific seat allocation but a reserved area will be allocated to pre-purchased tickets. The earlier you arrive at the performance, the better your choice of seat in this area. Tickets can also be booked by telephone on the BMS Ticketline, 087 2736740. For the month of November a group of Boyle gentlemen will be attempting to grow and tame some moustaches in a  ‘Movember’ campaign or ‘Niamhember’ as they are calling it to raise funds in aid of ” Niamh’s Journey There”. Let’s hope there is good growth during November and it brings with it a whole host of silly, bizarre, and overly ambitious moustache attempts! Please support anyone you see during the month with any sort of an attempt at a moustache!

A widows and widowers support group will be taking place meet in the Family Life Centre in Boyle from 7.30pm to 9pm. This is a support group for those who have been bereaved by the death of their spouse. The meeting’s take place every second Thursday of the month thereafter. No booking necessary. Cost is a Donation.

Sunday 11am until 1pm Please note: On occasion it may be necessary for the Gardai working at the station having to respond to a call or incident of an urgent nature. If this arises, they will have to temporarily close the station in order to respond to the incident. In addition to providing increased opening hours this will provide greater uniformity and consistency for the public. Gardai wish to thank the people of Boyle and the surrounding area for their continued support.

COMMUNITY CAMES
Boyle Community Games AGM will be held next Tuesday 7th November at 7:15 pm in the GAA Clubhouse. There will be no requirement to take on roles on the committee. The committee would be grateful if parents and coaches that were involved in the different events could attend to provide feedback on the this years competitions and discuss events for 2018

1916 Plaque Unveiling - SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19
The 19th Infantry Battalion association will unveil a 1916 memorial plaque in Boyle. The ceremony will take place adjacent to the Garda station and will commence at 12.30. This is the last of three plaques to be unveiled in the Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon areas covered by the 19th Battalion. Sunday’s ceremony is organised by members of the association from the former A and E Companys of the 19th.  Light refreshments will be served in St. Joseph’s Hall after the event. Association members, former members of the Battalion and the general public are cordially invited to attend.

FUN RUN/WALK

Halloween children’s craft classes
The Una Bhan Tourism Halloween Children’s Craft Classes will take place on Tuesday 31st, Wednesday 1st, Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th November. Class of ’75 reunion
A reunion of girls from the Class of 1975 from Scoil Chroist an Ri, Boyle is presently being organised. It is hoped to have a get together in 2018 to facilitate girls living overseas.

The Courthouse, Boyle are looking for volunteers to help build scenery. No experience is needed; just a bit of free time. The trains are set up and working so anyone interested can call in this Saturday between 11am and 1pm to have look around.

ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE
The Centre will host a FREE Mini Garden Design Consultation every Wednesday up until 25th October commencing at 11am until 12.30pm. Bring along photos and an outline sketch and get 30 minutes of ideas and inspiration from our professional Garden Designer on how to create your perfect garden.

Dates for Christmas Fair & Market
Plans are well progressed for this year’s Christmas Outdoor Market in the grounds of King House and Craft Fair in King House, Boyle. The Markets take place on Friday December 1st and Saturday December 2nd. On Friday, events commence at 5pm, concluding at 9pm On Saturday the markets and fair are open from 10am until 7pm. Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Boyle Musical Society’s forthcoming production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ will be staged from November 23rd to 25th. The 2017 Show will take place nightly at 8.30pm and we are very fortunate to have permission to stage this year’s production in St. Joseph’s Church, so look forward to a spectacular performance. Based on ‘The Coat of Many Colours’ from the book of Genesis, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and text by Tim Rice, 'Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' is a show for all the family. It features well known songs like 'Close Every Door' and 'Any Dream Will Do'. Boyle Musical Society last staged 'Joseph...' back in 2001 and the photo is from that production.
Tickets are €15 nightly but concessions for Children and OAP’s will be available for Thursday night’s production (only) at €10. Tickets will be on sale from early November in the following shops-Magees Fashions Main St. Boyle; Taylors Jewellers, Bridge Street, Boyle and Una Bhan Co-operative, Grounds of King House. There is no specific seat allocation but a reserved area will be allocated to pre-purchased seats- The earlier you arrive the better your choice of seat in the reserved area. Boyle Food Partnership was established in July 2017, following the realisation that some households are experiencing food shortages due to a lack of money.  Food supplies are limited and available to those most in need, those who are going without today … not to replenish a cupboard for an unidentified rainy day. Courtyard Market
The Market takes place every Saturday in the Grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm...If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, Vegetarian hot meals to eat here or take home as well as organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs,, sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week.
