Update 27th April


Boyle Tidy Towns
A meeting will be held on Wednesday 3rd May at 8pm in the Enterprise Centre. Hope that everyone appreciated the flowers in the town over the last year and one of the main aims of the meeting is to set up a gardening/flower group.  If you have a few hours spare over the summer and have an interest in gardening we would really love your involvement.  Many hands make light work!!

Darkness Into Light
On 6th of May, light will spread across the world, in over 150 venues on 4 continents. The vision at Pieta House is to create a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. Darkness into Light is vital for our fundraising, for raising awareness and for bringing people together as we do everything we can to bring about a suicide-free world. Meeting at 4.15am at St Joseph’s Hall Boyle.

Annual Sponsored Walk
St. Joseph’s Boys National School, Abbeytown, Boyle will hold their Annual Sponsored Walk on Sunday 7th May at 3pm. Meeting in the school at 2.45pm with the walk starting at 3pm.  Everybody welcome to come along. Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the school hall.

Mid week cycle
Curlieu Wheelers mid-week spins have commenced and will be held every Wednesday departing from the Crescent at 6pm. An evening spin will also take place on Friday’s at 6pm with the main weekend cycle on Sunday’s at 9pm. the Lough Key Classic will take place on Sunday May 14th

Curlew Walkers Club
            The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers club will be taking  place on Sunday 14th /15th May. This will be a weekend away in Innisboffin with your leaders Naomi McBride 087 6743 693 and Eileen Callaghan 086 1940 651. Lough Key Challenge
The Challenge will be taking place on Sunday 14th May starting and finishing in Boyle.  The115k will start at 9am and the 10am start for the 33/70k.Enjoy the beauty of Lough Key Country and take in the views in this challenging event. Further news coming soon on www.curlieuwheelers.com

The market is now open for Organic Fruit and Vegetables, Organic Eggs, Olive Oil, Achill Sea Salt, Bread, Grow Truck Vegetarian Meals, Juices, Award winning Cakes, Jams, Tarts, Honey, Hand Knits and Plants and Herbs. The market will be open from 10am until 2pm each and every Saturday.

IRELANDS Toughest Muckers
Registration is now open for Ireland’s Toughest Muckers challenge which will take place once again in Lough Key Forest Park on Saturday June 10th. The 10k obstacle challenge will have a number of new features this year. A “Little Muckers” course is added this year for participants under 16 years of age with all monies raised from this section going to a nominated children’s charity. This is the fifth year for Toughest Muckers to be held in Boyle and early indications are that it will be a sell-out event. And remember, your entry gets you free beer, food and entertainment at the finish line! To register for this event go to irelandstoughestmuckers.ie

Boyle Arts Festival 2017
Once again, Boyle is the place to be this summer, with appearances by Anúna, Declan O’Rourke, Miriam O’Callaghan, Eddi Reader, Brian Kennedy, Rackhouse Pilfer, Regina Nathan, The Celtic Tenors, Michael McHale, The Inishowen Gospel Choir, Jon Kenny and Mary McEvoy all lined up for the 28th annual Boyle Arts Festival, which will take place from Thursday 20th July to Sunday 30th July. More details of very exciting and diverse events will soon be announced when the official programme is launched, in June. The Festival calendar is already bursting at the seams with almost fifty events, including an eclectic mix of visual arts, music, drama, film, comedy, workshops, storytelling, children’s events, poetry, readings and much more! If you are planning a visit to Boyle this summer, then make it late July, so you can enjoy as much of BAF 2017 as possible! Tickets for a selection of events will soon be available to purchase on www.eventbrite.ie.  A big thanks Roscommon Co. Council for the use of the beautifully restored King House which as always, houses the centrepiece of Boyle Arts Festival – the main Visual Exhibition, once again curated by Paul McKenna. Update 21st April


Boyle Fire Service needs your support!
Boyle Fire Service is holding a fundraising car wash in Shop Street Carpark on Saturday 29th April from 12until 4pm. All proceeds will go towards installing lights in the Pleasure Grounds. Lighting up the community park will provide access to all its amenities and add an attractive visual dimension to the town after dark. This project has the full backing of Roscommon County Council, Boyle Town Team, Boyle Chamber of Commerce and Boyle Gardai. information on Fire Safety in the home and each car washed will be entered into a draw for a picnic bench worth €180 which has been very generously donated by Martin Connolly and his team at Boyle Men’s Shed. Please call in and support, because together we can make a difference.

BOYLE GOLF CLUB
Commencing with the most recent results, the Club Fundraiser held over the Bank holiday weekend was won by the trio of 1st Michael Simon, Michael Reid & Frank Flanagan with 93pts, in second was Pat Brogan, Paul Connolly & Seamus Gallagher with 87pts and in third was Terry Canning, Ross Andrew & Gerry O Hara 86pts. Thanks to all who played, some more than once - It is much appreciated by the club.
The previous weekend the voucher competition for men and the ladies lucky strike took place. The two respective winners were Terry Canning & Moira Egan both of whom will get to enjoy complimentary golf in the year ahead. Second in the voucher went to Jim Dwyer, gross prize to Brendan Gaffney and third to David Wynne. The ladies runner up was Regina McLoughlin, the gross winner was Tish Perry and third was Liz Dwyer. The first men's Thursday competition was held on Thursday 13th April. In first place was Pat Conroy with 21pts, Owen Garvin was second and Sean Heslin was third, both with 17pts.Club Foursomes Matchplay The draw for this year's edition of the competition has been made available to view on our website or club noticeboard. Jonathan Egan & Seamus Gallagher will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins having captured the title in 2015 & '16. The deadline for those involved in the preliminary round is Saturday 29th April to complete their match. 

IRELAND'S TOUGHEST MUCKERS
Ireland's Toughest Muckers is a 10km obstacle challenge set in the stunning location of Lough Key Forest Park in Boyle. This challenge is tough, dirty, sweaty, wet, adrenaline packed but most of all it is fun. There will be natural and manmade obstacles that you may need help to complete but it is all part of the challenge, and just when you think you can’t take anymore there is a surprise in store (let’s just say you better get on that stepper). This course is designed by firemen who got silver medals in the world police and fire games last year, so you can expect it to be full of exciting and tricky obstacles. Event schedule and times: Saturday 19th July. Registration begins at 10am on the morning and the race starts at 12.00. There is ample parking in the forest park. Waivers will need to be signed on the day. It is advisable to wear training gear for the race but remember to bring a change of clothes to enjoy the festivities afterwards.

Update 11th April



FOUNDATION COOKERY COURSE 
A Foundation Cookery Course has commenced in Abbey Community College, Boyle and will continue until April 27th. Course modules include foundation cookery training, first aid, food hygiene, customer service and interview/communication skills. The course is geared for people seeking employment opportunities in the hospitality, nursing home and deli sectors. Employers interested in providing work experience can contact 071 9673440. The course is organised and funded by Boyle based training network, Role Skillnet. The network provides funding for training in small and medium sized businesses.

CHILDRENS CRAFT WORKSHOP
Una Bhan Tourism Boyle will be holding their Craft Workshop on Tuesday 18th through to Friday 21st April. All children over the age of 5 are most welcome. For further information call 071 9930 33.

THANK YOU TO SISTERS OF MERCY
The Parish Pastoral Council have organised a celebration of Thanksgiving to acknowledge the work of the Sisters of Mercy here in Boyle on Saturday 22nd April.
Mass will take place at 7.30pm in St. Joseph’s Church and a Parish Gathering in St. Joseph’s Hall afterwards. Everyone is invited to attend.

Update 7th April

BOYLE GOLF CLUB
Sponsors are currently sought for the men’s Thursday competition which runs each week beginning Thursday 13th April. If you wish to sponsor one of these, please write your name on the sheet provided on the noticeboard. Also, there is an opening for businesses or individuals to sponsor our new monthly medal competitions which will be held on the last Sunday of every month. These competitions will form the core of the Golfer of the Year series and will be the gents flagship events outside of the clubs majors. Sunday 2nd of April saw the singles stableford won by Jim Mooney (10) with 38pts, in second was Padraig O’Connell (16) with 37pts, the gross prize went to Terry Canning, and in third was Pat Brogan (19) also with 37pts. The winter 9 hole competitions has come to a conclusion as of the last week of March. Thanks to all who supported these competitions.

Easter Egg Hunt
The Courtyard Market will be holding their Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday 15th April 10am until 2pm. All welcome.

Bright Sparks Quiz
The Boyle Christmas Lights Crew invite all Businesses, Community groups, Clubs and friends to join them on Good Friday 14th April in St. Josephs Hall in search of the Brightest Sparks in Boyle! Table of four costs €40, and proceeds will go the Christmas Lights fund.
The crew thank you sincerely for your continued support over the years, which has enabled buy the lights, add new additions and continue to expand our array of lights- including the lighting of same over the festive period. Good Friday Night is a guaranteed night of fun and enjoyment and we appeal to all to support the event. BOYLE & DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB
Boyle Annual Pike Angling Festival will be taking place on the Easter weekend, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th April on Lough Key, Boyle. €5000 guaranteed prize fund 1st Prize €2,500 plus the Moonstone Jewellers Perpetual Cup. In addition, Saturday and Sunday’s winners will each receive €1175 in prize money. Entry Fee per person - Adults €60 / Juniors €20 (Junior’s must fish for junior prize and be accompanied by a fee paying adult). Tawnytaskin Community Centre
The annual Afternoon Tea Event will once again take place this Easter Sunday and Monday April 16th and 17th. This year all monies raised will go to purchase a defibrillator. It is the Committee’s intention to place the defibrillator outside of the building in case of emergencies. We are delighted to announce we will have Martina Morris, photographer exhibit her fantastic pictures and cards. Further details contact Ann on 086 813 0005.

FUNWALK/RUN
Easter Monday 17th April why not walk off the Chocolate Eggs  by participating in a 6k FunWalk/Run starting from Cavetown Amenity Centre at 2pm with registration at 1.30pm.Entry €5 per adult and children go free. Proceeds in aid of Cavetown Amenity Development. Refreshments served everybody welcome.
