BOYLE GOLF CLUB

BEAUTY IN THE COMMONPLACE
This is the first solo exhibition from Photographic Artist Mathew Gammon. It features forty hand printed photo intaglio works, created over the last three years. His work explores, through abstraction the innate beauty to be found in the structures and patterns of the Commonplace. Each of the works is hand printed using the traditional intaglio printmaking process and they are displayed in handmade lacquered walnut frames fitted with non-reflective UV glass. This Exhibition is now on in King House, Boyle and will run until Sunday 9th July.

Curlew Walkers Club

Summer Show 80′s Disco night
The Boyle Summer Show Annual disco has stepped up a notch this year and will belt out tunes from the 60′s, 70′s, 80′s and 90′s in the ‘Dance through the Decades ‘Summer Show fundraiser. DJ Dermot Leyden is already dusting off the vinyl’s in preparation for the night which this year takes place on Saturday July 15th. Come dressed as your favourite artist or group and who knows there might be a prize waiting for you! Disco starts at 10pm in Daly’s Storehouse with €10 entry

BOYLE ARTS FESTIVAL
The official BAF 2017 programme is now available throughout the town. The Festival office will not be open until July but you can beat the rush, by simply logging on to

FAI Soccer Camp comes to Boyle
The annual FAI Soccer Camp will take place at Celtic Park in Boyle from the 7th to the 11th of August. The camps cater for players of all abilities and participants are grouped according to ability and age to ensure that everyone gets the most out of being on a SportsDirect.com FAI Summer Soccer School. Camps run from 10.30am until 3pm from Monday to Friday.
Beginners will learn the fundamental football skills needed to be a player and receive a fun and dynamic introduction to playing the game. More seasoned players will focus on more technical and skill-specific training and everyone will come together in the afternoon to participate in mini-leagues and small-sided games. The coaching programme for the week is fully aligned to our Player Development Plan and offers young players the opportunity to maximise their learning and development in a fun and safe environment whilst doing what every young football loves to do – SCORE GOALS!

GOLF CLUB RESULTS
Boyle Golf Club's June Monthly Medal took place on Sunday 25th June.  Many thanks to Surprises Giftware/Better Buy Boyle who kindly sponsored the competition. The results were as follows: 1st Eamon Perry (20) 65, 2nd Liam Whyte (13) 66, Gross Sean Heslin 78, 3rd Jim Dwyer (19) 67. Congratulations to Paul Connolly & Cian Smith who booked their place in the final of the Club Foursomes Trophy and now await the winners of the other semi-final between Sean Heslin/ Michael Rush and Jim Dwyer/ Liam Whyte. The Junior Golf Lessons will take place as usual on Saturday Morning at 11am. Newcomers always welcome. This year's series of lessons for juniors with a PGA Professional has been provisionally set to commence on the evening of Wednesday 12th July. More details to follow. 

Courtyard Market
The Market takes place every Saturday in the Grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm. .If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, Vegetarian hot meals to eat here or take home as well as organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices, sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. There is a clothing bank outside the Boyle Family Resource Centre (Family Life Centre) which accepts old clothes, bed linen, handbags and shoes that are sent for recycling. Your support and donations are very much appreciated as this helps raise funds towards the Centres programmes and community work. No Duvets and Pillows and as they cannot be recycled.

Training the Boyle Ambassador
A novel new initiative will take place on Wednesday June 21st starting at 10.45 until 2.15 meeting at Una Bhan Tourist Information Office, in the Grounds of King House. "Training the Boyle Ambassador" is one of the eight points announced by Boyle Town Team following the town's win in the national Enterprising Town Awards in November 2016. Town Team member Patricia Golden, who is leading the initiative, said she strongly encourages all Boyle businesses and business owners to send a member of their front-line staff on the free familiarization tour, as this is a great opportunity to provide their staff with added local knowledge and offer an extra service to visitors and tourists which may even encourage them to stay longer in Boyle.

Breast education and awareness event
A Breast Education and Awareness programme is due to be held in Boyle. The complimentary Breast Cancer Ireland programme will take place on Wednesday 21st June 11am-12pm in Boyle Family Resource Centre. All ladies are welcome to this free event.

Digital tools & online seminar in Boyle
The soon to be launched Spool Factory Co Working Hub and Event Centre in Boyle will host the “Ultimate Crash Course in Digital Tools & Online Awesomeness seminar” on Wednesday June 21st commencing at 4pm. Galway based web development company and creative agency Educated Machine are embarking on a whirlwind tour of Connacht bringing their Ultimate Crash Course in Digital Tools & Online Awesomeness seminar to the far flung corners of our province. The Boyle event takes place in The Spool Factory Event Centre on Wednesday June 21st. Each of the seminars will be completely free of charge and are open to anybody who wants to learn about digital tools and productivity for business.

The Office of Public Works is pleased to announce that on the first Wednesday of each month, all OPW managed Heritage Sites will continue to offer free admission. This will apply to all sites, including Boyle Abbey, for the duration of their season. Boyle Abbey is open daily from 10am until 6pm with last admission at 5.15pm.

Boyle funding applications now sought
Boyle Municipal District is now inviting applications from within the district for those who wish to avail of funding under the following headings: Dereliction, Infrastructure, Festivals and Fairs, Economic and Community Development and Tourism. The minimum amount of money a group can apply for is €5000. The maximum amount is €25,000. 95% of the total cost of a project is available. The funding is subject to the Boyle Municipal District Funding Scheme’s terms and conditions. Applications forms and guidelines are available to download from: www.roscommoncoco.ie/en/ or from the Boyle Municipal District office. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 30th June.

This is a reminder to all artists, local, new, those from further afield and those under 25 that it is time to be thinking of your entry to the Boyle Open Art Exhibition. The exhibition runs this year from Friday 21st July until Saturday 29th July. It is anticipated to be another excellent show for 2017, exhibits for which will be selected by an anonymous panel. Handing in of entries will take place as always in the Church of Ireland, Parochial School on Military Road, Boyle (opposite Boyle Family Resource Centre) on Friday 7th July between 4pm until 6pm and Saturday 8th July from 4pm until 6pm. Entries will be accepted in any medium, to a maximum of 3 per person. Entry forms are available in Una Bhan Tourism, in the Grounds in King House, Boyle or call 071 9663 033.

PRE LAUNCH IN KING HOUSE
On behalf of the organisation, we are extending an invitation for you to join and participate at the "Pre-Launch of the book "The Journey Behind the Red Door" at the King House, Boyle, on Saturday 15th July. 5pm until 6pm.  The launch of the collective book published from Creative Writing to Publish workshop to engage the community in using the act of writing as a cultural exchange in communicating their diaspora experience. BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
Congratulations to our Lady Captain Mary O'Hara who won the President’s Prize to Ladies on Sunday 4th June  with a score of 72, in second place was Tish Perry with 72, the gross was won by Peggy Feely and third place went to Susan O'Mahoney with 73. In the men’s 18 hole s/ford well done to Sean Heslin who won with a score of 43pts, in second place was Kevin O'Connor with 42pts, the gross went to Gary Carty with 74 and in third place was Vincent Egan with 41pts. In other competition news, congratulations to our Ladies Junior Foursomes team who beat Ballaghaderreen to book their place in the Connacht Semi Final. In the Club Foursomes Matchplay, Sean Heslin & Michael Rush are the first pair to book their place in the semi-final and all other matches to be played must be completed by Sat 17th June. Junior golf continues on Saturday at 11am. This week's session will include some skills challenges for kids in attendance on account of it being the President's weekend.

Local bus service recommences
The Lough Key link on the Boyle Local Link Bus Service is now in operation. The Bus will operate seven days per week and serve King House, Boyle Marina and Lough Key Forest Park with fares of adults €1 and children 50c. The Local Link bus service operates year round in the Boyle area with onward connections to Roscommon town. It was launched in June 2016 following the successful Boyletoday.com sponsored Lough Key Shuttle Bus initiative which carried many passengers between Boyle and Lough Key for a number of years.

Boyle funding applications now sought
Boyle Municipal District is now inviting applications from within the district for those who wish to avail of funding under the following headings: Dereliction, Infrastructure, Festivals and Fairs, Economic and Community Development and Tourism. The minimum amount of money a group can apply for is €5000. The maximum amount is €25,000. 95% of the total cost of a project is available. The funding is subject to the Boyle Municipal District Funding Scheme’s terms and conditions. Applications forms and guidelines are available to download from: www.roscommoncoco.ie/en/ or from the Boyle Municipal District office. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 30th June.

Irelands Toughest Muckers
With less than three weeks remaining until Ireland’s Toughest Muckers takes place in Boyle’s Lough Key Forest Park, places are filling fast. You can still register online at irelandstoughestmuckers.ie. This strength and endurance challenge will take place on Saturday June 10th. The 10k event will have a number of new features this year. A “Little Muckers” course is added this year for participants under 16 years of age with all monies raised from this section going to a nominated children’s charity. This is the fifth year for Toughest Muckers to be held in Boyle and early indications are that it will be a sell-out event.
And remember, your entry gets you free beer, food and entertainment at the finish line!

Curlew Walkers Club
            The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers club will be taking  place on Sunday 11th June. Meeting on the Crescent, Boyle at 9 am  This will be a Climb Graden A/B at Slieve League. Do your local waters matter to you?
The Waters and Communities Office will hold a meeting at Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle on Tuesday 13th June at 7.30pm to discuss the natural waters within your local area. The Community Waters Officer for Roscommon will present information on the latest draft River Basin Management Plan with details of how you can have your say. There will be discussion on local interests such as; water quality, angling, heritage, biodiversity, amenity use or issues affecting your local water environment. Afterwards there will be refreshments and opportunities to network. Lough Key Event
Midlands Aquathon Series in Boyle will take place in Lough Key on Wednesday 14th June starting at 7.30pm. A swim and run event hosted by Lough Key Triathlon Club, consisting of 750m swim and 5k run - Entry  €10 with TI licence (1 Day Licence required if you do not have a TI race licence)

Boyle Arts Festival
This is a reminder to all artists, local, new, those from further afield and those under 25 that it is time to be thinking of your entry to the Boyle Open Art Exhibition. The exhibition runs this year from Friday 21st July until Saturday 29th July. It is anticipated to be another excellent show for 2017, exhibits for which will be selected by an anonymous panel. Handing in of entries will take place as always in the Church of Ireland, Parochial School on Military Road, Boyle (opposite Boyle Family Resource Centre) on Friday 7th July between 4pm until 6pm and Saturday 8th July from 4pm until 6pm. Irish Language Secondary School Summer Camp
Enrolment is now open for an all Irish summer camp which will take place from Monday 26th until Friday 30th of June in Boyle. This camp is for first and second year students.  It will cover all the skills needed for Junior Cert Irish both oral and written in a fun and creative way. The aim of this summer camp is to offer students an enjoyable and fun atmosphere where they can learn Irish and have the opportunity to speak it in an Active Learning environment – lots of drama, games music, art, cooking, dancing and outings. Class starts at 10 and finishes at 2 30 each day. Discounts are available for families. All primary School children welcome as work will be differentiated to facilitate learning from all.

FAI Soccer Camp comes to Boyle
The annual FAI Soccer Camp will take place at Celtic Park in Boyle from the 7th to the 11th of August. The camps cater for players of all abilities and participants are grouped according to ability and age to ensure that everyone gets the most out of being on a SportsDirect.com FAI Summer Soccer School. Camps run from 10.30am until 3pm from Monday to Friday.
Beginners will learn the fundamental football skills needed to be a player and receive a fun and dynamic introduction to playing the game. More seasoned players will focus on more technical and skill-specific training and everyone will come together in the afternoon to participate in mini-leagues and small-sided games. The coaching programme for the week is fully aligned to our Player Development Plan and offers young players the opportunity to maximise their learning and development in a fun and safe environment whilst doing what every young football loves to do – SCORE GOALS!

The May Monthly Medal 18 Hole Stroke Sponsored By The Mayfly Inn Ballinafad was won by Seamus Gallagher with a score of 63, in Second was Eamon Perry also with a score of 63, the Gross went to Patrick Egan with 72 and third was Frank Flanagan with 64. As today's competition was also the Qualifier for the PGA Tankard Seamus will be joined by Susan O Mahoney who won the Ladies PGA Tankard with a score of 59, second place went to Joey Mullaney with 68 , the gross went to Tish Perry and third place was Mandy Toolan with a score of 69.  Well done to Seamus & Susan and wishing them the best of luck when they go to Royal Tara Golf Club in August. Club Foursomes Match play; The Third Round has been extended for one week. All matches must now be played by Saturday 17th June. Junior Golf

Boyle Family Resource
Get ready for Spring/Summer by doing a clear-out. There is a clothing bank outside the Boyle Family Resource Centre (Family Life Centre) which accepts old clothes, bed linen, handbags and shoes that are sent for recycling. Your support and donations are very much appreciated as this helps raise funds towards the Centres programmes and community work. No Duvets and Pillows and as they cannot be recycled.
