LOUGH KEY TRIATHLON 2017
Lough Key Triathlon takes place on Sunday 3rd September - for anyone who has never done their race before have you ever wondered what to expect? They have a stunning Forest Park setting in heart of the North West of Ireland - 30 mins from Sligo, 1hrs 30 from Galway, 2 hours from Dublin and just over 2 hours from Belfast. They pride themselves on doing something different each year as regards their famous goodie bags and this year is no different - they have just taken delivery of 300 'goodies' and they can guarantee entrants will not be disappointed. DIGITAL SKILLS FOR BOYLE CITIZENS
A new Digital Skills for Citizens course starts on Monday September 4th in Boyle.
Booking is essential for this five week course which will run from 7pm-9pm in Boyle Family Resource Centre. For more information please contact the Centre on 071 966 3000. This free programme is funded through the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE)

BASIC FIRST AID COURSE INCORPERATING CPR
The venue for this course will be the Boyle Family Resource Centre and will be taking place on Thursday September 7th at 9.30am until 5pm. To provide each participant with the necessary skills to give immediate treatment to an adult who has been injured or taken ill suddenly, prior to the arrival of the medical services (Ambulance or Doctor). To provide treatment where no further medical (Doctor) treatment is required. To Preserve Life, Prevent Further Injury and Promote Recovery.  The trainer on the day will be James McLoughlin of Absolute Safety. On successful completion of courses, each participant will receive a Certificate issued by Absolute Safety 

MARIE KEATING MOBILE UNIT IN BOYLE
The Marie Keating Foundation mobile unit & nurse will once again visit the Family Resource Centre, Boyle on Tuesday September 12th from 10.30am to 3pm. The Foundation Mobile Information Units are staffed by a specialist nurse and visit community groups, workplaces, organisations and public places to bring cancer information straight into the heart of communities nationwide.

BOYLE BOOK CLUB
Boyle Library Book Club is eager as always to welcome new members. Meetings are held monthly in the library, at 11am on a Wednesday mid-month. More details can be had from Boyle Library. All are welcome to come along and enjoy the best of books and the liveliest discussion and to present their own suggestions to the group. Book for Sept is “Dear Life” by Alice Munro and there are copies in the library. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, 13th September at 11am.

BOYLE MUSICAL SOCIETY
Well it looks like the evenings are drawing in around us, meaning it’s time to think about what to do for the autumn. The best fun to be had however, will be taking part in Boyle Musical Society’s forthcoming production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ which will be staged from November 23rd to 25th in St. Joseph’s Church, Boyle.
Rehearsals will begin on Monday September 4th in St. Joseph’s Hall at 8pm and a warm welcome is extended to all new, former and existing members to join up for twelve unforgettable weeks of music, singing, drama, dancing, comedy and lots more.

The Market takes place every Saturday in the Grounds of King House, Boyle from 10am until 2pm..If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to the Courtyard Market should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, Vegetarian hot meals to eat here or take home as well as organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices, sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. Get ready for Spring/Summer by doing a clear-out. There is a clothing bank outside the Boyle Family Resource Centre (Family Life Centre) which accepts old clothes, bed linen, handbags and shoes that are sent for recycling. Your support and donations are very much appreciated as this helps raise funds towards the Centres programmes and community work. No Duvets and Pillows and as they cannot be recycled.

BEE KEEPING AT ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE
An Introduction to Bee Keeping will take place in Ardcarne Garden Centre on Saturday 26th August. This free customer event will get underway in the Boyle store at 11.30am and conclude at 12.30pm. Join Eamonn Tubman, chairman of Digges Beekeepers Association for an introduction on how to keep bees. All are welcome

Joint ticketing for Boyle attractions
A joint ticketing initiative is now available in four of the area’s top attractions. Visitors to King House, Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle Abbey and Arigna Mining Experience can avail of a discount if they purchase another ticket for any of the other attractions. It is hoped to have Boyle Model Railway added to the ticketing system when it is up and running. The idea was first mooted by Boyle Town Team to Roscommon County Council earlier this year. With the assistance of Martin Lydon and Mary Mullins from Roscommon Co Co and the management of the four venues, the joint ticketing initiative is now live.

Boyle Branch Library
Emigration from Boyle with a happy ending! Hear grandnephew Vincent Delaney tell the story of Thomas Higgins, born near Boyle in the 1840’s who emigrated to the United States and in later years wrote down recollections of his life. This will be taking place in the Library on Tuesday 22nd August at 6.30 pm until 7.30 pm.  Boyle Library will also host an exhibition of letters and images relating to Thomas Higgins and his amazing life. This exhibition will take place Library hours from the 15th 26th August.

Hello Delia murphy
Enjoy and afternoon of the story and songs of Delia Murphy, performed by her niece Carmen Cullen with music by Gerry Anderson. Delia was a singer and collector of Irish ballads who recorded several records from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. During World War Two she assisted Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty (the Vatican pimpernel) to hide Jews and escaped Allied soldiers from the Nazis. This event will take place in Boyle Library on Wednesday 23rd August at 2.30pm until 4.30pm.

COURTYARD MARKET
To celebrate Heritage Week the Courtyard Market which takes place every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle will be hosting the following events: Vintage Motorbikes and High Nellie Bike display on Saturday 19th August alongside: ‘How to Build a Bug Hotel’ (the only Hotel in Boyle) 10am, Basket Weaving Demonstrations with Victor and live music by Stereo Bytes at 11am. On Saturday 26th August also celebrating Heritage Week: Vintage Motorbikes and High Nellie Bike display 10am with Food demonstrations, ‘How to Build a Bug Hotel’ 10am Basket Weaving Demonstrations with Victor, 11am Live music by ‘The Hermit Collective’ 11am FREE Children’s tour of King House ‘Through the Eyes of a Child’ conducted by Anna for children aged 6 to 12 (pre-booking essential as limited numbers). At 12 noon Hair braiding by Anna and food of Bye-gone years’ in King House Tea Rooms with a Vintage Theme.

“Dig It” is a fun educational, hands on archaeology experience for ages 3years plus where they will carry out a ’mini excavation’ with the promise of hidden treasure using safe, child friendly tools. Warning – children can get a littler dirty as this is an outdoor event so please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This event will take place on Saturday 26th August from 11am until 5pm.

Autism & ADHD Summer Camps in Boyle
Summer camps are aimed at inclusion and equality so are open to both children with Special Needs and siblings. Camps are run over two days the 16th and 17th August10 until 3pm and include all materials, gift at the end and certificate of participation for every child. KING HOUSE EVENT
Come along to the front step of King House to see Michael Bell from www.naturelearn.com open his moth trap to reveal what wonderful creatures can be found flying around the grounds of King House during the night while you are asleep. This is an outdoor event so please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This event takes place on Monday 21st August in the grounds of King House at 11am until 12pm. Michael will then take you on a nature walk 21st August at 12pm until 1pm and take a nature walk in the Pleasure Grounds adjacent to King House. See what bugs, creepy crawlies and wildlife you can find living in the park and along the river.

BOYLE & DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB
The Paddy Sharkey Perpetual Memorial Lough Gara Cup Open Pike Competition will be held on Sunday 13th August on Lough Gara. Fishing from 11am until 6pm with check in and entries taken at Templeronan Pier. Presentation will take place in the Moylurg Inn, Boyle at 8.30. BALLINAMEEN LADIES GAA CLUB
the Annual 10km walk, run or jog will be taking place on Sunday 13th August at 6pm. Registration is behind the Cross Bar, Ballinameen from  5pm until 5.30.

New road side signs for Boyle
Boyle will soon get a number of new signs to indicate that the town is the overall winner of the “National Enterprising Town Award”. The signs will soon be erected under the existing green “Welcome to Boyle” signs on approaches to the town. In addition, new and larger “Welcome to Boyle” signs will also be erected in Greatmeadow and on the Mockmoyne approach roads. The signs will be erected by Roscommon Co Co later during August.

First Aid refresher course in Boyle
An emergency/occupational first aid Refresher Course incorporating CPR will take place at Boyle Family Resource Centre on Tuesday 15th August 9.30am-5pm. Course Content:

Self care management course
A Self Care management course for people living with an on-going or long term health condition will be available in Boyle – if there is a demand for such a programme.  It is a 6 week programme for 2.5 hours and will cover topics such as: Getting a Good, Night’s Sleep -
Managing your Medication - Problem Solving - Dealing with Health Care Professionals - Diet & Exercise etc. The programme will be delivered by two facilitators one of whom must be living with a health condition. If you are interested please contact Jackie on 083 8478076 or email selfcaretowellness@rsg.ie or if you would like to meet and discuss the value of such a programme then please let me know and I will come and  do a small presentation/talk to a group or have a one to one phone conversation.

Golf classes in Boyle on Wednesday
A series of golf classes for children aged 7-13 take place each Wednesday from 6pm at Boyle Golf Club with PGA Professional Peter Duignan. The classes are open to members and non-members alike. Peter is a highly experienced coach, having completed his training at the prestigious Portmarnock Golf Club in Dublin before taking up a head professional role at Charlesland in Co Wicklow. Currently based at Co Longford Golf Club, he will be offering tuition to those from Boyle and the wider area. There will be three one hour slots and groups will be limited to 8 participants each so it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.
This promotional drive is in association with visits that took place to two local primary schools, Scoil Na nAingeal Naofa and St Joseph’s Boys National School by the club and the Confederation of Golf in Ireland.

Roscommon Learning Links
Elphin Street, Boyle are pleased to offer places on the Major Award Level 5 in Information Processing in September 2017. The Course is a fulltime course that can be achieved over 30 weeks. Age is but a number at Roscommon Learning Links where anyone from 16 upwards to 60 plus is welcome to upskill and get certification in a relaxed Adult Education Training Centre. To Leaving Certificate students who are eagerly awaiting results and unsure about their future, it’s an ideal stop gap to gain additional certification, increase your points and time to reflect on your career path or chosen Course.
